Royal Caribbean’s Subway Makeover

While the models were getting dressed and altered during Fashion week, Royal Caribbean gave Subway line S in Times Square a royal makeover. Although I may have missed the couture fashion show in New York (note to self: arrive on time) I refused to miss an opportunity to see the adorned subway line. As a former trainer for Royal Caribbean, and huge fan of the cruise line, my vacation to the city was not complete until I made a trip to see the subway line for myself.

After getting lost a few times in the city, I decided to call the Royal Caribbean call center and ask for directions, and any further details they could give me to help me find the subway. I got a really nice agent on the phone (can’t remember her name- walking, talking, and dodging crowds can be difficult) but she was so helpful to guide me to the subway I needed. The employes at Royal Caribbean are extremely patient and helpful, even it when it comes to odd requests such as this. When I arrived, to my surprise the entire S line was refurbished in the Oasis of the Seas garb!!! I quickly began jumping up and down in excitement, and excusing myself in the crowd when I realized I was getting in peoples way. It was no wonder that subway riders were strangely gazing, while I hopped in and out of each car, rushing to take photos on my cell phone. A nice man even offered to move over for me so I could get a photo of the surfer. Side note: it’s against subway rules to open inner car doors….tourists.

Unfortunately, I was not lucky enough to make it on the day that the actors were riding the subway line. On those days, Royal had soon-to-be passengers talking to the shell phone, Oasis characters from the Broadway play “Hairspray” available for photo op’s, and wave riders giving surf lessons. I also may have missed my reservation for the fashion show, and didn’t get to take a photo of me on a shell phone, but it was a real treat for me to see New York City, and the transformed subway line. Enjoy the photos fellow travelers!
